What is a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant?
A Clinical Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled allied health care professional that specializes in
procedures commonly performed in the ambulatory health care setting. Clinical Medical
Assistants perform both clinical and administrative duties and provide skilled assistance to a
variety of providers including physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. They
typically work in medical offices, clinics, urgent care centers and may work in general medicine or
specialty practices.


Common duties of a Clinical Medical Assistant include administrative and clinical tasks, such as:
  • Taking patient histories and vitals
  •  Assisting providers with exams and procedures
  • Administering injections and medications
  • Preparing laboratory specimens
  • Performing EKG, Phlebotomy, and laboratory procedures
  • Checking patients in and out upon arrival and departure
  • Answering phone calls and questions
  • Working in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Insurance, Billing & Coding
Total # of Hours:495 
Online: 247 hours
(Students should expect to study on a average 16 hours a week)
Classroom: 168 hours
Externship: 80 hours


ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: 

-Must attend Mandatory Information Session(s)
-CMA Program Application 
-Must have High School Diploma or GED
-Copy of College Transcripts 
-TABE or PERT scores; (
Please Note: TABE Score must be at a minimum of 5 or higher; PERT Scores must  be at a minimum of 90 on each of the following subject areas: Math, Reading and Writing)

**CPR Certfication must be from American Heart Association and valid for at least ONE year from class start date.
**This is a non-credit program and is not PELL GRANT eligible.**

**This is a Full Time blended program that consists of online assignments, face-to-face classroom training, and externship.
